Beloved Desserts, from the Village to Gowanus

Those who used to frequent the East Village may remember the delicious dessert shop called Puddin’. Clio Goodman opened the pudding-centered dessert business about a decade ago on St. Marks Place with the assistance of a client. Just 23 years old at the time, Goodman had no prior knowledge about running a business or managing a store. About three years after opening, however, keeping up with the demands of the operation became too difficult, and the popular dessert shop closed down.

Now, Goodman is opening a new storefront – this one centered around cakes. During the pandemic, she veered her baking passion from pudding varieties to cake assortments. She ended up opening a pop-up business called ByClio. Now, the cake business will move to a real shop in Gowanus just in time for the New Year.

Until the opening of the shop’s physical doors, customers can enjoy Clio Goodman’s pastries at her pop-up storefront on the Lower East Side. Along with other chefs and cooks, she is displaying her creations and concept in a space hosted by Sommwhere, which is designated to young talent in the food industry who haven’t yet found a permanent location.

So, if you have a special occasion coming up, or just a sweet tooth – be sure to check out Goodman’s cake collection or stroll on by to the pop-up store.
