Taylor’s Taste of the Big Apple

Elizabeth Taylor: New York Auction

In a few months time, the collectibles of Dame Elizabeth’s Taylor memorabilia, including designer clothing, art and jewelry, will tour various places in the world, including Dubai, London and Moscow and will then be sold in a New York auction.

For real gem lovers this will be a particular treat especially since according to a BBC report, the Dame “owned some of the world’s most expensive stones.” The profits the exhibit receives will go towards the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

While it’s not the first time Taylor’s gems have been displayed (following her book, ‘Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry”™ in 2003 there was a display), it is perhaps their first visit to Christie’s where they will now be seen at the Rockefeller Center gallery.   It is anticipated that this will attract thousands of visitors.

According to someone from the auction house, Marc Porter, “the global tour and exhibition of her collection at Christie’s will be a window into the world of a true icon, a rare woman who was at once an international film and fashion star, loving mother, successful businesswoman, and generous humanitarian.   This collection of her many cherished possessions will bring us closer to the essence of Elizabeth Taylor’s unique spirit, and promises to inspire admiration, delight and, at times, sheer wonder in all who come to see it.”
