Brooklyn Boasts Two New Book Shops

Bookworms in Brooklyn will be pleased to hear about the city’s two newest stores. Recently, book shop Taylor & Co. Books opened its doors to the public, and this August, Lofty Pigeon Books is scheduled to debut. The two indie bookstores are filling a much-needed service in the neighborhood which is home to approximately 75,000 people.

Andrew Colarusso, owner of Taylor & Co. Books, is a poet. He taught at Brown University for seven years and then returned to his Brooklyn hometown. During a visit to the Brooklyn Artery art shop, he had learned that the store would be moving across the street to a larger space, and he was given the opportunity to take over the lease. Colarusso was excited at the chance to convert the very modest-sized storefront to a cozy, welcoming bookstore.

Owners of the upcoming Lofty Pigeon Books, Davi Marra and Briana Parker, are longtime book lovers. In an interview with Literary Hub, Davi explained that all his life he has worked in various types of bookstores. He met Briana while working at The Corner Bookstore, and his time in book shops has given him much fulfillment in life. The couple is ecstatic to be opening an independent bookstore together, and view it as a way to give to their community.

The arrival of Taylor & Co. Books and Lofty Pigeon Books is a true turning point for the area, which hasn’t been home to a bookstore since the 1990s. Lasting memories and interesting reads are sure to fill the neighborhood.
