What Do You Heart About New York?

Governor Andrew Cuomo is getting some great attention after rolling out a new ad campaign. He’s asking New Yorkers to put on their thinking caps and to submit artwork that expresses what they love about the state. He wants the new ad to play off of the I “heart” New York campaign that was one of the most successful advertisement campaigns of all times.

As Cuomo explained in his recent press release about the summer campaign,

“This campaign reinvents one of our state’s great assets, the ‘I Love NY’ icon, which is known the world over as one of the most successful advertising symbols ever. This campaign brings that icon to life in order to highlight all of the things people love about New York.”

The $5 million new campaign will include the new ads for seven weeks and will target tourism within a five to six hour driving range of the City. The ads will run during the daytime hours on both network and premium channels and will be featured on shows like Good Morning America and Today, in addition to ESPN, the Travel Channel and the Food Network. They will also be carried by more than 6000 cabs four times per hour during weekdays with NYC Taxi TV.

The campaign was created through a partnership with the New York State Division of Marketing, Advertising and Tourism and the BBDO Advertising agency. As Ken Adams, the President and CEO of Empire State Development said,

“There’s never a shortage of passion about New York, and now, we’re putting that passion where it belongs — into the heart of New York and its tourism industry.”

The campaign is a concerted effort to promote tourism all around the state, as Cuomo explained in the press release, “Tourism is vital to the economy of our state, supporting nearly 500,000 jobs and generating tens of billions of dollars in revenues for the state and businesses.”

While there aren’t any prizes attached to the campaign, there will be a collective art show posted online to showcase many of the best submissions.

Submissions can be sent by email at http://www.iloveny.com or submit [at] followyourheartny [dot] com.  And they say that all submissions will be displayed at the online gallery.
