Dentons

Dentons has expanded its New York corporate practice by recruiting Cameron Kates as a partner focused on fintech, digital assets, artificial intelligence, and technology transactions. The appointment adds a lawyer whose work spans commercial agreements, corporate transactions, product development, and regulatory questions for technology companies, investors, and financial institutions.

Kates also maintains a product counseling practice, advising companies during the design, development, and launch of new offerings. This work places legal review close to product decisions, where questions involving ownership, distribution, compliance, contracting, and market access can emerge before a product reaches customers. For clients operating across software, finance, and digital assets, the role connects transactional work with the practical requirements of bringing technology to market.

He joins Dentons from Yuga Labs, where his positions included chief legal officer. The move brings in-house experience from a company focused on crypto products, digital communities, and onchain experiences, adding an operational perspective to the firm’s client work. It also strengthens the firm’s ability to advise businesses whose legal needs cross corporate structure, product design, and regulation.

The appointment comes as digital asset businesses continue to face overlapping federal and New York requirements. The SEC maintains a dedicated crypto task force, while the New York State Department of Financial Services oversees virtual currency licensing and supervision. Companies entering or expanding in the sector need counsel capable of addressing transactions and product questions alongside regulatory obligations.

Dentons gains a New York partner whose background covers both outside advisory work and executive legal responsibility inside a technology company. For clients, the practical value lies in having product counseling, corporate execution, and emerging-technology regulation handled within a connected practice as new products move from development into commercial use.
