Bride Hard: Action and Comedy Collide at the Altar
Summer moviegoers seeking both laughs and thrills can mark their calendars for June 20, 2025, when “Bride Hard” hits theaters nationwide with a blend of high-octane action and wedding comedy chaos. Directed by Simon West (“Con Air,” “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”), the film stars Rebel Wilson as Sam, an elite secret agent who finds herself demoted from maid of honor to bridesmaid after prioritizing espionage over her maid-of-honor duties.
When Weddings Go Wrong
When armed mercenaries take the entire wedding party hostage, Sam becomes their only hope for survival. Between dodging bullets and battling villains, she attempts to salvage both the celebration and her fractured friendship with the bride, played by Anna Camp. Their reunion follows their collaboration in the “Pitch Perfect” franchise.
The supporting cast features a mix of comedy veterans and dramatic actors including Anna Chlumsky, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Gigi Zumbado, Stephen Dorff, Justin Hartley, Sam Huntington, Sherry Cola, and Michael O’Neill. This ensemble brings depth to what’s been described as a mashup of “Die Hard,” “Spy,” and “Bridesmaids.”
Behind the Scenes
Filming wasn’t without incident. Wilson suffered a minor injury on set when accidentally struck in the face with a prop gun. The mishap required stitches, but Wilson took it in stride, humorously comparing her experience to action stars Tom Cruise and Daniel Craig, who have sustained injuries while performing their own stunts.
The screenplay comes from writer Shaina Steinberg, working from a story by CeCe Pleasants. Production took place in Savannah, Georgia, during mid-2023, with an experienced producing team that includes Joel David Moore, Kevin Ulrich, Max Osswald, Cassian Elwes, Colleen Camp, Jason Ross Jallet, and Bob Yari.
With music by Ryan Shore, “Bride Hard” promises a unique cinematic experience where wedding reception formalities transform into battleground strategies. Magenta Light Studios and STX Entertainment are distributing the film.
What to Expect
As summer entertainment, “Bride Hard” offers something different—wedding cake as potential cover, champagne flutes as improvised weapons, and a protagonist navigating social awkwardness while saving lives.
As summer blockbuster season approaches, “Bride Hard” offers a promising alternative to both superhero spectacles and formulaic romantic comedies. Whether Sam saves the day—and the wedding—remains to be seen when the film premieres this June.
