Voting For Tony Awards to Begin March 1

Broadway may be shuttered until the end of May, but that won’t stop the theater industry from moving forward with the annual Tony Awards to celebrate stage excellence.

The show may not be quite ready to go on, but at least the voting will begin:

“Voting for the 74th Annual Tony Awards will take place between March 1 — March 15, 2021. We will present the 74th Annual Tony Awards, which were originally scheduled to take place in 2020, in coordination with the re-opening of Broadway,” Tony Award Productions said in a statement on Friday.

New York’s famous theater district has been dark since March 12, 2020, and last year’s awards ceremony was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year’s nominees for Best Play included Slave Play, Sea Wall/A Life, Grand Horizons, The Inheritance and The Sound Inside, with Moulin Rouge!, Jagged Little Pill and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, which is also up for Best Musical.

A full list of 2020 nominees can be found here.
