Senator Ruben Diaz Compares Hitler to Abortion

Bronx State Senator Ruben Diaz has never been one to take things quietly.   Last year, he was outspoken in his feelings against gay marriage and created quite a scene considering that he has an openly lesbian granddaughter, Erica Diaz.

This week, he’s upsetting the Anti-Defamation League, and just about anyone else who finds it distasteful to equate Hitler with abortion issues. On Tuesday, Sen. Diaz ranted against a bill that is up for a vote that would strengthen the state’s abortion laws.   He said that Hitler “chose to send the Jews to Auschwitz” in an email to supporters and to reporters.   He continued by explaining that,

“That was not their choice that was Hitler’s choice.”

Somehow he thought this analogy would help in his opposition to the Reproductive Health Act being pushed by many fellow Democrats at the moment.

His words were not taken lightly.   Etzion Neuer, the deputy director of the New York Anti-Defamation League, called his analogy between Hitler and the abortion debate “incredibly offensive.” Senator Martin Golden, a Brooklyn Republican who opposes abortion said, “He loses credibility when he does that.”

That would imply that he had credibility to lose.
