Record Cold Chilling New Yorkers

This winter seems to be getting worse by turns. Last week the temperature on Friday the 20th of February the thermometer plummeted down to a mere 2 degrees above freezing, lower than the previous record for the same day in 1950, when the temperature was a comparatively mild 7 degrees.

In New York’s suburbs the temperature fell to below zero during the night, and if you add in the effects of wind chill the temps went down to as much as minus 10 to 20 degrees.

And it did not matter that Friday was nice and sunny. During the day the warmest people got to feel in the great outdoors was into the mid-teens, and not more. The National Weather Service is continuing to predict cold weather in the near future.
