Great Sounds at the Second Sunday Jazz Concert Series

Wycliffe Gordon
Wycliffe Gordon

The PJS Jazz Society has been celebrating the art of jazz since 1980 with their ever popular Sunday jazz concerts. Once a month for eight months a year the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon, New York plays host to some of the most promising upcoming jazz artists as well as some of the most established.

This past Sunday and the next two months offer an especially exciting line up of artists. Last Sunday’s concert was with Wycliffe Gordon, the well-known trombonist, who lead a quartet of great musicians. In March aficionados can come and celebrate Women’s History Month by listening to an all-women’s sextet. In the month of April come and enjoy a concert in honor and memory of the great pianist Billy Taylor. This session is sure to attract some of the musicians who were closest to Taylor, especially in the years leading up to his death.

Second Sunday Jazz Series at PJS Jazz Society, with Wycliffe Gordon on Feb. 13, Sage on March 13 and a tribute to Billy Taylor on April 10. All concerts are at 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 199 North Columbus Avenue, Mount Vernon. Tickets: nonmembers $18, students $15, members $10. Information: (914) 667-0823 or pjsjazz.org.
