DoorDash Opens Its Doors in Brooklyn

Big news for restaurant take-out lovers in Gowanus and greater Brooklyn!

Last week, DoorDash announced its launch of DoorDash Kitchens in Downtown Brooklyn. Not only is this the ghost kitchen’s first branch on the East Coast, but this food hall also features limited indoor seating, a first for the brand. While still focused primarily on delivery, the new location can accommodate 20 eat-in diners. Senior director of DoorDash Kitchens, Ruth Isenstadt, explained how it works: “DoorDash Kitchens Brooklyn is optimized for delivery, whereas many food halls are focused on their on-premises offerings. All of the restaurants within DoorDash Kitchens feed into a unified dispatch area, where DoorDash supports the handoff of orders to Dashers and customers. To provide a seamless experience, Dashers pick up orders at a distinct window outside of the building.”

The virtual kitchen will offer five different local restaurant brands. Pickup and delivery will be offered to customers in Gowanus, Dumbo, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Clinton Hill, and Prospect Heights.

DoorDash Kitchens opened its first ghost kitchen in the San Francisco Bay area in 2020 as an experiment. Two years later, the company now has two locations in the San Jose area and North Hollywood – and now, its first East Coast kitchen.
