Being billed as the largest rooftop farm in New York City, Sunset Park’s Brooklyn Grange opened for business this Sunday amid live music, tours and free compost.

The festival took place from 11am to 4pm on the roof of the Liberty View Industrial Plaza. The site is the third such urban farm sponsored by Brooklyn Grange. The garden is hoping to supply tens of thousands of points of fruit and vegetables, all grown on site. The farming company says it will open the space to the public every Sunday until the end of October.

Brooklyn Grange has two other rooftop farms. One in Long Island City and the other in Greenpoint. Those other sites also have weekly farmers’ markets, tours and workshops to teach youth about farming and agriculture.
