If we ever see that anyone has anything nice to say about the Pavilion Theater on the Park Slope / Windsor Terrace border, we’ll post it in lights. Mostly, we sometimes see just complaints about what a crap hole the place is (plus the occasional unfounded rumor its being closed and will be redone as a condo). In any case, here’s the latest choice comment, via Brooklynian:
Just got back from seeing Wall E with my daughter, movie was great, but I wanted to rant about the Pavilion a little. Most of the armrests in the theatre are either missing or falling off. Same goes for the beverage holders. This is not a complicated repair. All it takes is a screw and a screwdriver. In addition, once we were all settled in and the movie began they shut off the air. By the end of the film it was unbearable in there. The manager tried to act surprised about the air, but I am convinced this is a money saving idea - once we are trapped inside and the movie has started they figure no one will complain. Also, she said they were “working” on the condition of the theatre. Doubt it. It definitely convenient to the nabe but a total dump. Stay away…
Dump or not, it’s always busy.

Whoa boy, when they pull the old “suffocate the audience” trick at the Pavilion, there’s only one thing to do: DEMAND A REFUND! Instigate a mob of surly fellow moviegoers to go with you; assure them you’ve done it before, and if they all insist, you’ll get one. You will. If everyone does this consistently about everything (broken seat, filth, bad projection/sound, etc.) maybe the slobs who run the place might shape up. There is only one person worth sparing at that dump: a developmentally delayed young lady who works as an usher (or did awhile back, I haven’t seen her on 2 recent visits), who was the soul of courtesy and good service. Maybe she got sick of the surrounding sloth and stupidity. Such a shame, too, ’cause that place had such promise, and continues to have its ‘captive audience’ for want of competitors.

I have have gone to four shows there in the past five years and have left the past two times before the show started.
One because my seat back broke off and there was no other operable seat available and the last time because the theatre smelled so strong of feet my eyes began to water.
I will never go back.

There’s really nothing wrong with the Pavilion, at this point, people are just complaining out of inertia.

I saw Wall-E this weekend as well, and even with the promise of Digital Projection, the screen was barely bigger than my flat screen at home, and the “room” sat about 40 people total. The bright exit sign to the left could’ve also been part of the movie.
So much for an immersive movie-going experience. If I had a few more good chairs for my living room, and a decent bootleg of Wall-E, I too could charge $11 a pop.

I’ve gone a lot over the years and I don’t know what these complaints are all about. Of course I’m retired and usually go early in the day and never on weekends. . .

I’m still rather fond of the Pavilion, but the last time I went there I was also suffocated during the film when they turned off the AC. I thought this was a one time mistake, but now it appears to be on purpose, and that’s disgusting.

yeah, but it is great to be able to walk to a movie theater. It has some blemishes but not much more than some of the theaters in Manhattan or elsewhere. Has anybody taken their complaints to the management?

my girlfriend has refused to come back here after we saw a rat running under the seats while waiting for our movie to start. can’t say i’m in a hurry to return either.

I have to say: I love the pavillion. I forgive it it’s shortcomings, much like I do with the Court St. Theater. I love the idea of going to the movies and not be in horrible stadium showings in Manhattan

I love the pavillion I go all the time with my kids. I have never had a bad experience in that movie theatre and the ushers have always been courteous.

I don’t know what’s wrong with all you guys. The Pavilion is mad awesome and ive never had a problem. stop acting like bitches
